Member Benefits

The game of golf embodies strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and mental discipline. SMGA programs are designed to leverage these attributes to facilitate the healing process. For those new to the game, you will find this takes a great amount of dedication to become a member. SMGA members are eligible to use many resources at little or no cost to you, so you can continue to incorporate golf into your physical and mental recovery.

Golf Course Partnerships

To help with the high cost of greens fees, the SMGA has forged a number of partnerships with local golf courses and country clubs to provide free or discounted greens fees. As policies are all subject to changer SMGA members should call in advance to confirm access. Here are some of the relationships that we have for SMGA Members only as of June 8, 2020.

Argyle Country Club (Silver Spring, MD)

Monday through Friday

COVID-19 UPDATE – Due to Maryland restrictions, ACC is only permitted to allow access to their members. We’ll update you when that policy changes and SMGA members can return.

Montgomery County (MD) Municipal Golf Courses

List of Courses can be found here.
Monday – Thursday $15 cart fee for your members with ID
Friday – Sunday after 1pm
Must call on the day-of to get the benefit on Friday through Sunday.
COVID-19 UPDATE – No walk-up play. Tee times must be made in advance.

Olney Golf Park (Olney, MD)

One free bucket of balls per day to SMGA members

Waverly Woods (Ellicott City, MD)

Can play Monday thru Thursday.

Cart fee required. Must call in advance to make a tee time COVID-19 UPDATE: Veterans are allowed to walk-on only without guests. Can book a tee time if one person is paying full price, otherwise walk-ups only M-Th.

Heritage Hunt Golf & Country Club (Gainsville, VA) SMGA New England

Relationships at several courses, including:

South Shore CC (Boston, MA), Sterling CC (Worcester, MA), Brattleboro CC (VT), Pawtucket CC (RI), Dunegrass CC (ME), Atkinson CC (NH), Mohegan Sun GC (CT)

Tournament Playing Opportunities

Each year, hundreds of golf tournaments donate free playing spots for our members. To receive email updates for future openings please sign up for our mailing list.

Golf Experiences

SMGA members often get the opportunity to participate in many once-in-a-lifetime golfing experiences all expenses paid. Past trips include The Masters, Tiger Jam, Monday after the Masters, Russell Wilson Celebrity Invitational, Golf Ireland (pictured at right), and many more. Visit our FaceBook page for updates

Handicaps

Members may register for free to establish a handicap through the Maryland State Golf Association.

Equipment Discount Program

Members are eligible to receive a substantial discount on TaylorMade and Adidas golf gear through the SMGA.

Amateur Tours

The VGA is dedicated to enriching the lives of Veterans and their family members through the camaraderie and sportsmanship of golf. Annually, the VGA hosts more than 350 local tournaments across the country, culminating in a VGA National Championship. The SMGA will reimburse SMGA members for membership in the VGA, local registration fees, and green fees and cart fees for up to 3 events plus VGA regionals or nationals. Lifetime Free Golf Instruction

Each calendar year, members can apply to take up to two (2) private golf lessons with a PGA Class A Professional of their choice.

SMGA member benefits require the use of your SMGA issued membership card. In order to obtain one, you must first become a member. For more information on how to become a member, click here.
